"I don't feel comfortable in the Shakedown because it symbolizes a Pitzer mold that I don't fit. Being in that space reminds me of the aspects of Pitzer that I don't conform to.

I'm also part of MIX, the Mixed Identity Exchange Club at Pitzer. We used to have our club meetings at the Shakedown. That reminds me of how people who identify as mixed on this campus don't have a space, and we probably won't anytime soon.

There's always the perception that mixed people are just white enough to be comfortable everywhere else, or just 'ethnic' enough to be okay in resource centers. This dismisses the experiences of ostracism that mixed people face in both places. There's also the false assumption that mixed people are always people of color mixed with White."
