"I feel like the intersections of my identity aren't really welcomed here. When they saw my transfer application, the idea of having a Latina from downtown L.A. must have been super appealing. But with the intersections of being queer, being disabled, being Latina and low-income—just from trying to work at the Admissions Office and being a tour guide... I realized this place isn't exactly meant to support me.

The Office isn't really talking about me and my journey as a transfer student. There are certain groups of students that are idealized and have recognizable faces throughout the campus, throughout the promotional products that are made. There is no way that my tattoos are ever going to be in a pamphlet, you know? There's no way my story about being unable to leave my room and being unable to pay for my books is ever going to be on the Pomona website. The Admissions Office gave me a chance by letting me come to Pomona, but gave up on me afterwards."
